The AFA Gabriel Chapter is proud to announce its 2009 Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Karen Molloy from Chantilly High School. Mrs. Molloy is an outstanding educator who is qualified and deserving of the Air Force Association Chapter Teacher of the Year Award. Terms that come to mind when describing her are: incredible work ethic, energetic, teacher leader, team player, life-long learner, intelligent, talented, straightforward, honest, researcher, enthusiastic, caring, dedicated, and professional. As teacher and Science Dept Head for Chantilly High School, Karen has used her 14 years of teaching experience and passion for the subjects to guide hundreds of young people towards technical careers. With her drive and determination, the school received grants she requested, won awards, hosted science fairs and involved parents in unprecedented numbers. Our chapter provided about 1/10 of the 100 judges she requested for this year's science fair and she continues to reach out to her community to open more opportunities for her students. Her involvement in the school's robotics lab, girl's engineering program and ROTC are impressive. She holds professional teacher conferences, like AVID National Summer Institutes for hundreds of teachers every year. She even coauthored the 2 books on the AVID Write Path Series for science strategies and activities for middle and high schools. She is truly a beacon for our youth and a model among teachers.
